What we do

The interest of IPC comprises the panorama phenomenon in a wider context, both nineteenth-century derivatives of the panorama, such as the moving panorama, and modern panorama art forms such as panorama photography, gaming and 3D film, all closely related to the surrounding panorama experience.

IPC is active in the fields of restoration, research, financing, exhibiting and marketing of panoramas. We offer a variety of services including for example:

  • organizing one international conference a year, hosted in partnership,
  • networking among panorama specialists and students,
  • coordinating academic research initiatives,
  • publishing an annual newsletter,
  • maintaining a website linking to institutional members,
  • lobbying for endangered panoramas,
  • worldwide consulting on panorama related issues.

Annual Conference

The IPC conference is the annual highlight of our activity. Each year we partner with a host institution to invite proposals for presentations that explore panoramic and immersive media from multiple disciplinary perspectives. Our conferences typically present a diverse range of topical sessions and often include workshops, roundtables, and tours of related sites and collections. We welcome contributions from academics, professionals, students, and enthusiasts of art, architecture, art history, conservation and preservation, cultural heritage, design, history, media, museum practice, panorama management, restoration, virtual reality, and visual culture, as well as transdisciplinary thinkers and makers with an interest in immersive media, mediated sensation, and related fields of research.

New partnerships are always in development, please contact the IPC Secretary General to learn more about becoming involved. secretariat@panoramacouncil.org
